10 (3.3%) of 300 specimens tested by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Laboratories in WA
were positive for influenza; seven (70%) were influenza B viruses and 3 (30%) were influenza A viruses.
Though influenza A (H3N2) viruses were predominant throughout the majority of the 2012-2013 season in WA, the proportion of influenza B viruses has continued to increase since CDC week 5, particularly in eastern WA.
The proportion of visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) in both emergency departments and outpatient clinics decreased and was below baseline across the state.
There were no laboratory-confirmed influenza associated deaths reported to the Department during week 12.
